Oakland Family Services is pleased to announce that our Building a Brighter Future Campaign raised a grand total of $221,320 — $36,320 more than our $185,000 goal!

We are blown away by this response and extremely grateful after the difficult year our agency and the people we serve have faced due to the coronavirus pandemic. For the past two years, due to health and safety concerns, Oakland Family Services has held the online Building a Brighter Future Campaign in place of the Building a Brighter Future Breakfast, the agency’s largest annual fundraiser.

“We are so thrilled and humbled by the support we received for our Building a Brighter Future Campaign,” said agency President and CEO Jaimie Clayton. “We have missed having our in-person annual breakfast due to the pandemic, but are happy that the impact of our work has still resonated with the community.”

This year’s Building a Brighter Future Campaign also celebrated Oakland Family Services’ 100th anniversary, a monumental occasion for any organization.

“It has been our supporters that have helped us to build brighter futures for those who need it most over the last 100 years, and we know we will need that support to continue for 100 more,” Clayton said.

The funds raised will help Oakland Family Services continue to provide prevention, education and treatment programs to support children, families and individuals as they continue to grapple with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Over the past year, the feelings of isolation, depression, anxiety that we all experienced, and are still experiencing, were so unexpected,” said Director of Development Kristin Benton. “We've faced challenges we never thought we'd see, and we all needed support. Oakland Family Services has been here to help people adjust to and cope with the moment-to-moment changes of the past year and half, and we know that there is still much work to be done. Support for our programs through this campaign allows Oakland Family Services to keep doing what it has done for 100 years — respond to societal issues of the times and help those experiencing hardships to build brighter futures.”

The agency would like to give a special thank you to the campaign’s sponsors:

With a “return to normal” in sight, Oakland Family Services hopes to celebrate its 100th anniversary with two special in-person events later this year: a family-friendly 5K run/1K walk on July 24 and a Centennial Celebration at Bloomfield Hills Country Club on Sept. 24.
